Heritage Newham meeting – join our bid to ensure history matters

A public meeting being organised by Heritage Newham – People, Places, Progress takes place this week.

The meeting is at the Terence Brown Arc In The Park, in Hermit Road, Canning Town, on Thursday January 23, from 5pm.

We hope you can join us to discuss our future projects and anything else history or heritage related, writes Colin Grainger.

Several speakers have been lined up to talk about new projects being considered to help us preserve the history and heritage of our borough.

And there’s also a chance for you to help shape the future of the group.
Our group, which incorporates the Museum for Newham campaign, was formed four years ago by those with an interest in Newham’s rich heritage and history.

We have already staged many heritage events, including playing a key role in two Newham Heritage festivals in the borough and a number of our own celebrations. And our three social media pages on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, has posts at least once every day sharing memories and also previewing events staged not only by ourselves but other groups locally and nationally. We also run a Heritage group for young people in the borough.

We have posted and shared and created an archive of more than 2,700 images of the past, and shared many of them with of the 20 plus Facebook memories groups devoted to Newham. Come along on Thursday and join us in celebrating our history.
